Here’s to the Past
What do you do when you fall for the perfect guy? Date him? Marry him?
What do you do when you fall for the not-so perfect guy? Give it a shot? Forget about him?
What do you do when you fall for a Guy who according to you is perfect but not according to the traditions, religion, and both your families? Forget the world and date him (or marry him) OR Forget him and keep the traditions, religions and family happy?
Well Kiara did the latter. She had the perfect guy for her but had to let go because her family, traditions and religion wasn’t happy. She felt happy in his arms, she was in love with his silence, she genuinely laughed at his wit, she dreamed of waking up next to him every morning, she loved him he loved her, she was happy so was he but the world wasn’t.
It was the first day of college. A new step towards life. A little more freedom given by God to you for you to let go off everything and just enjoying life by taking a few decisions on your own. It all seemed normal. Fresh new faces, fresh new professors. It was a little different for Kiara because she was new to the city, new to the ways of people. She didn’t know the rules of the city which was the reason why she was so nervous.
Her family had recently shifted to Mumbai. The fast moving city where the new generation falls in love quickly and breaks all ties even more quickly. Kiara was a girl who enjoyed the slow pace. She wanted to take time to enjoy every minute. Admiring the nature, admiring people and analysing them in her head according to their body language. You could describe her as a girl who was sensitive, who was hardworking, who had certain dreams but her dreams had been limited to her family’s happiness. She had already segregated her dreams keeping each of her loved ones in mind.
It was her first step into the fast paced City. She entered college let out a big Sigh! Thinking in her head that this is it, let’s face it.
She managed to find her class and put her right leg while entering which was not a blind faith but she wanted to start her new life at the “right note”.  She scanned through the class and sat alone for a few minutes when she was joined by a few people who she would be spending the next three years of her education. She got acquainted with them. While introducing herself she kept looking around nervously, where she spotted a guy sitting alone quietly staring at everyone and occasionally looking at her as well. His silence was some mystery but his eyes said a lot. There was something that made her look at him again and again. She was woken up from her thoughts by the professor, “Hello Ms Dreamer do you have another name?” she stood up and introduced herself, “Good morning! I am Kiara Khan from Dubai. I recently shifted to Mumbai with my family after completing my plus 2 from Dubai.” While introducing herself she made it a point that she said her name aloud so that Mr Suspicious would hear it. She was patiently waiting for his introduction. When it was his turn to speak she was all ears to hear him speak. “Good Morning Sir! Hi all! I am Kabir Kapoor from New Bombay. I completed my 12th from Mumbai University and here to obviously finish my Bachelors in Business Studies.” His husky voice was something she fell for instantly. She had no clue she would one day fall for him instead of just his silence, eyes and voice.
I don’t want to elaborate on how they ended up being together. I just want to tell you about an innocent girl falling in love and eventually choosing to walk away from her decision. I don’t want to tell you how beautiful her life was when they were together I want to tell you about how hard was it for her to trying to forget him. I don’t want to tell you if her love was weak or strong I just know that she was too strong to kill her feelings and let go.
Both their families had different principles a total different opinion about them dating or falling in love with someone from another caste. Sometimes life pushes you till the edge and makes you decide whether you want to jump and figure out if you can fly or just walk on the same old path that people have built. Well Kiara knew she dint know how to fly and how would she fly when Kabir being one of her biggest strength chooses to opt out of the decision.
It was difficult for her to manage when they had mutual friends each talking about how cute they looked together and giving her condolences on her decision. She was obviously depressed but kept a strong face to show the world that she will find someone just like he did.
People keep asking her questions like, “Don’t you think he moved on too fast? One week after breaking up he gets engaged to someone else? Three years were a joke?”  She does have answers to all these questions which are safe inside her. She has many unanswered questions, she stills has a few questions but she thinks it is better if life doesn’t give her the answers.
Three years of being together and suddenly letting go. You need to be really strong for that. Kiara wasn’t strong, to be really honest she still cries and thinks what if she was still with him? She still imagines herself with Kabir instead of his wife. She knows he has moved on and Kabir’s pregnant wife is the biggest proof to her. If you ask her have you moved on? She just smiles away…

It seems like a true story for the readers but the above characters are totally fictional and nothing to do with my niece Kiara Haider who is just a year old and just says a few words like-“Mumma, Baba, Haider and Dirty”

Long Distance

That night I actually didn’t sleep. I knew I had to talk to kabir about it. Ever since our relationship status had changed to a long distance relationship things had changed. Phone calls from every minute had changed to hardly talking for a minute, text messages had conversations filled with both of us replying to each other saying, “ Busy baby BRB”. I heard the crows crowing and the birds chirping at around 5:30. The cold December morning still made me get up from bed and grab a cigarette. Lighting the cigarette with the old pink lighter that was a gift from kabir I covered myself with my blanket. Taking the 1 st puff I went back to the memory lane at the time when kabir had called me in excitement, “hey baby!! Have a big surprise. Meet me for dinner tonight? Mainland china? 9? I’ll pick you up! This dinner is special. Love you baby cya!” After this call I had made up my mind that he was going to propose! I knew it all this while because he was talking a lot about marriage and our ...

Avenge

He furiously told her,“Let’s even the score. You hurt me a lot of times I have even lost count.” She thought it was true love and concrete friendship but all he wanted was to avenge the pain of his broken heart. For her friendship was, never having to say goodbye. For him? It did not matter, he had already said goodbye.  - Samanah. Rizvi
